Test a regular expression

Enter a pattern and some sample text to see every match with its position, along with numbered and named capture groups. An invalid pattern is reported with the reason. And a pattern that would otherwise lock up the tab — the classic (a+)+ against a long non-matching string can backtrack for an effectively unlimited time — is stopped and reported instead, because a page that hangs tells you nothing about why.
